Merritt Island Airport was chosen for many reasons, chiefly being its size, type, location and reputation.  Merritt Island Airport currently has a 3,600’ paved, lighted runway with a NDB non-precision approach. This is more than adequate for a wide variety of aircraft up to and including small sized business jets. Merritt Island Airport (MIA) is an uncontrolled field meaning there is no permanent FAA presence on field. 

MIA also has a well-known reputation among the amateur built world as “homebuilt field.”  A recent Japanese documentary film crew was referred here while creating a story about the homebuilt industry in America. 

The airport is located along the Banana River on Merritt Island in central east coast of Florida.  Its location on the Banana River allows for easy access to the river for the testing, training and demonstration of amphibious or float aircraft.  Being near the Kennedy Space Center affords a great tourist attraction, as well as a pool of talent and knowledge. 

Our close proximity to Disney, MGM, beaches, etc. is also a powerful draw.  An owner can come here and work or learn and give family things to do.  The climate here is also ideally suited for both the construction of aircraft and for flying them. 

Located on the field are a top quality radio shop, FBO and a local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.  This chapter is very active and well regarded.  And finally, the friendly, helpful locals offer a high level of camaraderie.
